Hines' Zielo mall opens its doors near Madrid

US privately held developer and investor Hines said that its Zielo shopping centre opened its doors last week in the Spanish city of Pozuelo de Alarcon, near Madrid. The company has invested around EUR 100 mln in the development of the mall, which includes 42 shops.The project has a total catchment area of more than 1.5 million people living within a 30-minute drive.

Hines began development of the Zielo Shopping Pozuelo project in January 2008. The mall, designed by architect Alberto Martín Caballero, provides around 16,000 m2 of retail space on three levels.

Major retailers include Hackett, Yusty, Purificación García, Lester, Adela Gil, Roberto Verino, Bimba & Lola, Mango, Trucco, Musgo, Marc O’Polo, and Massimo Dutti. The centre also includes a restaurant and a Sánchez Romero supermarket.

Hines entered the Spanish market with the development of the Diagonal Mar mixed-use regeneration project in Barcelona in 1996. In 2000, the company opened an office in Madrid , and five years ago expanded its activities in the country with an office in Marbella.
