MAPIC: Saturn to rent 10,000-m2 in MAB's Rotterdam project

Category: Development
German electronics retailer Saturn and Dutch developer MAB have signed a rental agreement for 10,000 m2 in the Spinoza complex in Rotterdam. The store - Saturn's first in the Netherlands - will be one of the company's largest locations in Europe to date.

The agreement was signed last week in Cannes during the annual MAPIC fair.

The opening of the large Saturn store is in line with Rotterdam's ambition to strengthen the Coolsingel as a shopping area. 'Saturn will be a major crowd puller for the Coolsingel and an important booster to the area,' said Françoise Dechesne, director of MAB Development Nederland.

On the Coolsingel, next to the former Luxor theatre, MAB Development is developing a total of 25,000 m2 for retail, cafés and restaurants, offices and apartments, following the demolition of the Spinoza House. The plan is designed by Allies and Morrison Architects, and will be delivered in mid-2014.
