Event in 2nd Swedish hotel deal
Date: 18 May 2011
Category: Hotels
Cologne-based Event Hotels has completed its second Swedish hotel acquisition in less than two months with the purchase of the 96-room Ibis hotel in the city of Nyköping.

The deal, which follows on the acquisition in April of a 257-room hotel in Malmö, is in line with the company's plan 'to seek complementary distribution in key secondary Swedish cities in addition to core presence in Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö'. The financial details were not disclosed.

'Extensive market research reveals that there is major regional demand for conference business in the Nyköping market,' said Event's CEO, Anders Braks. 'As with the rest of the portfolio in Sweden, we will commence the refurbishment and redesign of the hotel shortly: a renovation aimed to bring well balanced practical and functional solutions.'

Event Hotels is a privately-held pan-European hotel investor and operator which currently owns and manages some 47 hotels in Europe. In 2010, the company disposed of 50 hotels in France.
