News International, a subsidiary of the multinational media conglomerate News Corporation, has appointed CBRE to sell its 60,000-m2 site at Wapping in the London borough of Tower Hamlets.

Wapping Village is the only development site of its calibre to be brought to market in recent years, CBRE said, allowing the potential to create a new residential-led mixed-use quarter on the edge of the City of London. The site comprises 1.3 million sq ft (120,000 m2) of existing buildings with potential for further development on the undeveloped part of the site.

News International's decision to sell the site was the result of a strategic property review undertaken in the summer of 2011, which concluded that the site was now surplus to requirements.
