British Land and Oxford Properties have appointed construction giant Laing O’Rourke as the main contractor for their flagship development project in the City of London, nicknamed the Cheese Grater.

British Land and Oxford formed a 50:50 joint venture to build the scheme in October 2010, and secured a 191,000 sq ft (18,000 m2) pre-let with financial services group Aon in May 2011. Construction work started in January 2011.

At 224 metres, the 47-storey tower will be one of the tallest and most iconic buildings in the Square Mile, the heart of the City's insurance district. The property will offer 57,000 m2 of offices and retail facilities on completion in 2014.
